Laser Surgery

Benign vascular lesions can easily be treated at our office with the V-Beam™ laser from Candela. This pulsed dye laser can treat such conditions as rosacea, scars, facial veins, warts, port wine stains and periorbital wrinkles. A burst of yellow light emitted from the laser is absorbed into the skin’s blood vessels. Once the vessels have coagulated, the body reabsorbs the vessel to heal the lesions. Throughout the process, your skin is protected by a system called DCD (Dynamic Cooling Device), which applies a cooling mist before the laser light makes contact with the skin. Prior to having this procedure, we recommend avoiding sun exposure or wearing sunblock of at least SPF 30. We also recommend limiting your sun exposure throughout the treatment. Some redness, swelling and bruising may occur following the procedure but disappears within a few days. There is minimal discomfort experienced with this procedure and it is generally compared to a snap of a rubber band against the skin. A topical anesthetic is available, if necessary.

For patients suffering with psoriasis, we offer the XTRAC® Excimer Laser System. More advanced than most psoriasis treatment options, the XTRAC® laser can confine the treatment area so there is no damage to healthy surrounding tissue. The laser delivers high doses of UVB phototherapy to the problematic areas to safely treat the condition. Patients with mild to moderate cases begin to see vast improvements in 4-10 treatment sessions, which generally only last a few minutes. Requiring no anesthesia, the XTRAC® Excimer Laser can give patients the relief they need from psoriasis.

Cynosure Laser Hair Reduction/Spider Vein Treatment

Cynosure Laser Therapy™ is an effective method for removing unwanted hair and treating spider veins. For hair removal, the laser utilizes TKS™ (Thermokinetic Selectivity) technology. In this treatment, a gentle energy beam from the laser penetrates through the skin to the hair follicle. The energy converts to heat to damage the follicle and remove the unwanted hair. This laser therapy allows for only the follicles to be targeted, thereby preserving the surrounding skin tissue. For the treatment of spider veins, a defined amount of energy is distributed through a beam of light to coagulate the veins, causing them to gradually disappear. Only the problem veins are treated, thus protecting the surrounding tissue from any damage. This non-invasive treatment causes minimal discomfort and can be completed in about 10-20 minutes. Results are generally reported in 3-4 weeks.

Acne Treatment

Dr. Kolleen Zimmermann is here to address all of your acne needs and determine the best treatment plan for each individual case. Acne treatment is Dr. Zimmermann’s area of expertise, and she is specially trained in the latest advances in acne treatment to provide our patients with the most effective care possible.

While most prevalent during the teenage years, adults can also suffer from acne later in life. Pimples, clogged pores (blackheads and whiteheads) and even deeper lumps can appear on the face and in areas such as the neck, chest and back. Acne can sometimes clear up on its own several years down the road, but oftentimes, people seek out treatment to prevent scarring.

We offer BLU/U™ Light Photodynamic Therapy in our office to treat moderate acne. The special BLU/U™ Light penetrates through the skin to kill the P. acnes bacteria that causes the inflammation. The system can be used alone or performed in conjunction with the topical application ALA, or Levulan®. The number of treatments will be determined by the severity of your acne. With minimal side effects, this gentle and safe technology may be your key to blemish-free skin.

Another acne treatment option is the Smoothbeam™ laser by Candela. The light energy is absorbed by the water in the skin, which generates heat near the sebaceous glands that will alter the function and structure of these glands to reduce acne and the appearance of acne scars. The laser uses a special method called DCD (Dynamic Cooling Device) to protect the top layers of skin and enhance patient comfort. There is some discomfort with a feeling described as the snapping of a rubber band on the skin with each laser pulse. A topical anesthetic is used before each treatment. Performed in the doctor’s office, each session lasts 5-15 minutes on average, depending on the size of the area treated. Dr. Zimmermann will determine the number of treatments necessary to effectively treat your condition. Prior to the procedure, your skin should be thoroughly cleaned, and we recommend avoiding exposure to the sun for two weeks before and after treatment. Patients may experience some redness and tenderness in the treated areas. This is normal and will disappear within a few days.

Botox/Juvederm Ultra Plus

Botox
Many are turning to Botox to reduce moderate to severe frown lines between their brows, forehead wrinkles and crow's feet. Botox is also being utilized to reduce excessive underarm sweating. Approved by the FDA in 2002, Botox consists of a few small injections of the purified protein into the muscles to temporarily reduce the lines. The procedure is minimally invasive, requires no recovery time and can be completed in about 10 minutes.

Juvéderm Ultra Plus
If you're looking to eliminate unwanted wrinkles and lines, Juvéderm Ultra Plus may be the option for you. Juvéderm Ultra Plus is a dermal filler consisting of hyaluronic acid, which naturally exists in the body. It is used to help correct facial wrinkles. Widely used around the world, Juvéderm Ultra Plus yields long-lasting results, for up to 1 year. Dr Zimmermann uses an extremely fine needle to inject small amounts of the filler into the skin, which aids in patient comfort throughout the procedure. The results are almost immediate! Free of animal proteins, Juvéderm Ultra Plus is a safe and easy way to bring back your healthy and beautiful appearance.
